Let Your Blog Soar….with Integrity

by the juice on February 10, 2009

When you make that first decision to blog, you may think that your focus or purpose will be strictly on one subject or idea. That’s kind of how this blog was birthed–I actually have three blogs that I somehow keep up with. My idea or purpose when I started this one was to supply individuals with all of the tips and tricks that would hopefully shave months off of the ‘trial and error process’ of blogging and niche marketing. My idea was to make  the whole alien web world a more understandable and happy place to be.integrity-11

For those of you who are  new to this business of blogging, tweeting and face-booking, I feel your pain. The task of trying to understand all of the different social marketing avenues as well as writing interesting, intelligent and keyword saturated posts (do you even know what a keyword is?) can be frustrating at best. A couple of years ago, I had no idea what the difference between a self hosted or a WordPress hosted blog was, let alone twitter, viral marketing, Aweber, or any of the other terms or tools that constantly rolled off the tongues of the savvy websters…..so, the long, bleary eyed and coffee-filled nights began….learning, learning, learning.

And here we are today…I am now a freelance writer who actually gets paid to do what I love. I work from home, determine my own hours (yea right) and am basically responsible for my own success or failure. It’s not as difficult as it seems and trust me, if you want to get there…you will find the road.

My advice to you today is this: Don’t put your blog in a cage, let it soar… As I said at the beginning of this post, you may think you are going to start out with a certain subject or niche, but like an infant who eventually turns into a teenager with their own bent and their own ideas…so a blog takes on an identity of it’s own….let it–It’s okay.

Your blog is a reflection of the inner you. Now I’m not saying to name your blog “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Snowboarding” and end up writing about your neighbor’s three legged dog, but what I am saying is this…If your blog takes a slightly different path or an unexpected turn…that turn is part of you—so let it out.

This blog was going to be strictly business. A learning blog all about Web-Success, web terminology, choosing the right platform, learning how to make the best use of social marketing, etc….and it is. (Well, it’s in the beginning stages, but keep coming back. I promise to teach all of those things and more). But intertwined within my posts I must include the foundation that is within me, and that is to teach the true meaning of web-success, life-success, or any success for that matter.

That foundation of success is integrity, moral character, and delivering a worthwhile product that you can be proud of. Anyone can learn to make a quick buck, but if I click on one more landing page that is selling “the 42 secrets of the 58 ways to turn your website into a cash cow in 5 days or less while working 10 minutes per week” I am going to vomit.  I’m tired of the cheap, used car salesmen in plaid suits that are building ridiculous websites and offering the moon with a set of Ginsu knives as an added bonus. Maye those are to poke our eyes out with later.salesman

When you begin your journey into blogging or niche marketing, do yourself and all of us a huge favor…..Be the person you’d want to deal with. Do what you love, do your best, and I promise you, the income will follow as a natural byproduct.

Well, I said all that to say this:

Welcome to my newest website / blog. Stick with it and you will learn a lot about blogging, working from home, writing for the web, how to use certain tools and which ones to avoid like the plague. You will also hear me tell you every day that it’s more important to be a person of value than anything else.

Integrity is key. It’s a commodity that many people don’t line their shelves with anymore…
