Blogging Blueprint: 30 Day Self Challenge
(Day 4 – Add Value for Traffic Building)

by the juice on March 18, 2009

Thanks for being a regular. Glad you are here!

Okay, still working on traffic building. I’m still linking to other sites. One thing I had not done (a stupid oversite) was to link to my own other websites. Yesterday I did that (I have 3 other sites) and I finally added Google adsense using the channels of marketing, work from home, entertainment, SEO, and web 2.0. I threw entertainment in there just so I’d have some movie ads and whatnot to mix it up a bit. I figured, maybe someone would click on an upcoming advertisement just as a momentary distraction.

I still don’t want Google ads in my blog text itself. I see that a lot of sites are doing that but I can’t bring myself to look that cheesey. So we shall see.

Another traffic building tool is always to add value whenever possible. I am having a contest which is hooked up on my left column with the words ‘free’ large enough to draw attention. When a visitor clicks on the image, it will bring them to a contest page where I am asking for comments to be made on my blog posts. Shameless, I know, but I do need more comments. In return I am giving away a copy of Problogger’s 242 page book entitled ‘Blogging Your Way to a 6 Figure Income.’ A while back my husband bought me a copy after I had already purchased one for myself, so I figured why not give one away in exchange for some feedback. I am choosing one person randomly who comments on any post between yesterday and March 31. I put the info on a WAHM forum I am a part of, as well as a blog directory site. I’ve already received some positive feedback, so I’m thinking of having a giveaway every month. Why not reward my loyal visitors, right? Right.1105757_a_gift_for_you

Another way to build links is to make comments on other blogs. (The ones that allow you to link back to your site). I do that pretty regularly. A good way to make sure your comment will not be deleted is to use obvious keywords that the person’s site wants to be recognized for. If you are commenting on a post about Google Adsense, make sure your comment uses that phrase in it. Little trick I read somewhere. Also, put your blog link in your signature on any forum you regularly comment in. This will give you plenty of linkbacks.

That’s all for today. I have a lot of writing assignments to catch up on. Thanks friends! We are getting there together.

To get traffic going, I really like the “commenting other blogs” technique you mentioned. No one’s going to find my site without some direction, so why not give it to them by leaving them a comment first!

Thanks for following along Diana. I’m sure we will all learn a lot from each other. Just this support system that is starting, is really awesome!

Most of this I already do, so today’s goals are easy. I did do a book giveaway a few weeks ago that pretty much flopped, but I’m going to keep doing sporadic giveaways anyway. I’m sure that will change. I hope I win the Problogger book. I read his blog and really enjoy it.
